Zante offers a wide range of accommodation from basic apartments to top class hotels. Hotels in Zante offer a variety of board mixes from self catering to all inclusive with drinks and snacks included.

Zakynthos is truly one of the most beautiful of the Ionian islands and when we visited it certainly did not disappoint us. The third largest of the Ionian Islands it covers approximately 160 square miles 75 miles of stunning coastline. The picturesque beaches and crystal blue water makes this the perfect destination in Greece. A host of watersports from sailing to scuba diving, from jet skiing to snorkelling await the active and adventurous or why not just relax and enjoy the warm summer sun. As the evening sun sets your beach holiday in Zakynthos can transform into a more lively holiday as you explore the many bars and restaurants this popular holiday destination offers.

Zante weather suits most tastes with maximum daily temperature at either end of the season in May and October offering the mid 20`s Centigrade rising to mid to high 30`s and even 40 degrees in July and August with water temperatures in the mid 20`s for the same high season period. A daily average of between 10 and rising to 13 hours of sunshine in July and August encourages visitors to the island.

Car hire makes most of the island accessible for those wishing to travel around, whilst others may choose to travel by quad bike, jeep or motorbike or the entertaining public transport, but you should be warned buses do not always run to schedule. We discovered one of the most enjoyable ways of seeing the island is to travel by boat, indeed the beach at Navagio, sometimes referred to locally as Shipwreck, is only accessible by boat taken perhaps from Porto Vromi or Agios Nikolos in Volimes village, but also take the opportunity of viewing the bay from the viewing point between Volimes and Anafonitria. If you enjoy travelling by boat consider a trip to The Blue Caves or Smugglers cove.

The beach at Laganas to the south of the island is the biggest and most popular, the 3 km of beach between Alyka and Alikanas to the north of Zante Town is also popular with Boat trips to the Blue Caves from Alyka, Bouka is smaller but picturesque whilst the beach at Gerakas also in the south of the island holds claim to the best on the island having been described as one of the best beaches in Greece. Like Laganas the beache at Gerakas offers the opportunity of sharing it with the popular Loggerhead Turtles but their existence prevents watersports taking place on this beach.

The islands nightlife features in the clubs, bars and pubs with Laganas, Tsilivi, Kalamaki, Argassi and Alykes proving popular.

For those seeking a break from the beaches Solomon Square in Zante Town, offers both the Byzantine Museum and the Church of Saint Nikolas, one of the oldest buildings in the capital, or try the Monastry of Saint George at Gremna, but a visit to the Blue Caves is a must for all visitors take advantage of one of the organised tours so nothing is missed.

Zante offers families and couples alike the opportunity of a varied and rewarding holiday.
