Great hotel deals in Costa Almeria, the sunniest resort in Southern Spain

Costa Almeria offers real value for money all year round. Great hotel deals are available on Quickrooms.com from 2015 through to 2016.

Costa Almeria stretches from Roquetas de Mar on the southern coast of Spain in the region of Andalusia to the border with Murcia, on the east coast of the country.  It is a region of huge contrasts, from wild, rocky seascapes to the only European desert. You will find little whitewashed villages clinging to the hill sides to wide open beaches with lots of space and wonderful clean seas. There are great Golf Courses, too with excellent facilities for the visitor.

In Roquetas de Mar there is a theatre, a bullring, a water fun park and an 18 hole golf course. Walking along the promenade, which is over ten kilometres long, there are bars and restaurants with a terrace at the beach side.

Almeria has great appeal, built at the foot of a mountain range, topped by the magnificent Alcazaba, an Arab fortress built by the Caliph of Cordoba.  Spend time within Almeria’s winding streets, visit its fine museums, and dining out on the local cuisine.

The Cabo de Gata is a protected natural area, offering great chances for bird watching, rambling and walking.  There are small villages with wonderful views, super beaches and a laid back life style. Maybe try Aqua Amarga, really stunning or Carboneras with sea front restaurants and a good beach.

Mojacar, stretching some distance along the coast,  is busy in the summer, perhaps the most popular holiday resort, in the area, with a hill top town well worth exploring, long sandy beaches with beach bars dotted around as well as a 4 star Parador hotel and lots of good quality hotel and self catering properties.  Here you will find the tourist pubs as well as food from every country!  Ideal for feeding a young family !

Not far away is Garrucha, a fishing port, with a busy fleet which supplies the local fish and sea food restaurants. Smaller than Mojacar, it is quieter and more compact.

You will find Vera town a little inland from it’s seaside area, Vera Playa. Vera has plenty of shopping opportunities as well as the main square for a coffee. But most visitors head for the beach, a long, clean and sandy stretch with lots of water sports, restaurants and cafes offering everything from fish and chips to Paella.

The coast line between Vera and the north is spectacular, with winding roads and great sea views, with little coves and small secluded sandy beaches tucked away between the rocky outcrops. If you are looking for a peaceful hideaway, this area is undisturbed by modern development.  San Juan de los Terreros is a small holiday village, popular with the Spanish holiday maker with small hotels and lots of self catering properties.  It has smaller but clean, beautiful sandy beaches. It is followed up the coast by Aguilas, which is bigger and offers more choice and variety.

However, Costa Almeria is not all about the coast!  Car hire is easy and relatively inexpensive, so get out and about.  Try Sorbas with it’s village houses clinging onto the rock face, local potteries and a few nice restaurants around the main square.  A little further on you will find Tabernas, famous for being the centre of the only European desert as well as the location for the film set of the Clint Eastwood films A fistful of Dollars and it‘s sequels.

This is a many faceted area of Spain, not as busy as the Costa del Sol, with smaller, quieter more Spanish resorts, as well as the busy areas around the larger towns. Many resorts are ideal for children and families.  It offers superb weather, beautiful beaches, lots of accommodation to choose from and the chance of a really relaxing holiday!

The old town is great for a meal and an evening stroll.  The beaches are excellent, with lots of family facilities as well.

The main city on the Costa Blanca is Alicante with a good choice of quality hotels, a lovely harbour and lots of shopping chances!  It is a busy city, but there are little squares, particularly by the harbour for a quiet coffee or drink.

On up the coast you will find the area around Benidorm. If you want a little less frantic activity than Benidorm itself, consider Calpe, a beautiful, up market resort with easy access to all the fun, but not right on the doorstep!  Benidorm itself offers a great location for a family holiday as well as the well known nightlife.  Just choose the part of the town carefully and you can have everything a family based holiday needs and the prices are very competitive.  The main beaches are fabulous with lots of family and kids based activities as well as good watersports facilities.

Further up the coast is the upmarket resort of Javea, the old town retains the atmosphere of a Spanish village and the Arenal beach is a horseshoe of white sands, backed by restaurants, cafes and bars.

Then the villages get more strung out along the coast, just the place to find a quiet cove, small hotel and local cuisine to try.  A world away from the hustle and bustle of Benidorm, the towns of Denia, Oliva and Gandia are very popular for a laid back holiday with a strong Spanish flavour.

One of Spain’s most famous Costas, the Costa Blanca is both everything you thought it was, sunny with long sandy beaches and great nightlife as well as many things you might not imagine, quiet sleepy villages, great local food and inexpensive family run hotels. Whichever aspect you explore, you will find a really warm friendly welcome, excellent value for money and the terrific sunshine !

TARRAGONA

Founded long before the Romans came and expanded the village into an important port, Tarragona on the eastern shore of Spain’s Costa Dorada is a great location for a holiday break. There are monuments as well as beaches. Its archaeological remains, a World Heritage Site, are a major point of interest. Tarragona is also a great base for exploring the region.

Looking for the beach? The Arabassada Beach is a short walk or bus ride from the city and is popular with the young and the holiday makers. There are many opportunities for water sports as well as great swimming and all the facilities needed on the beach front.  Volleyball is a popular sport, and the rocky parts of the coast line are popular with walkers.  Or, just a short distance away are the great beaches of Salou and the surrounding towns.

When it comes to eating, you will not be disappointed! Try the wonderful fish, seafood, nuts, tomatoes, oil and garlic.  Tapas bars are to be found in the Rambla Nova area, as well as Placa de la Font, where there are many cafes and restaurants. There are high class international restaurants as well as small bars tucked away in the side streets.  Take your pick…you will not go hungry!

The historic centre of the city sits between the Mediterranean Sea and the old walls. Here you will find the Cathedral of Santa María, with Roman, Muslim and Christian influences.  The main street in the old town is Calle de Çavallers, stroll along and wonder at the history it has seen.
Rambla Nova will lead you to the Paseo de las Palmeras and the Balcón del Mediterráneo for great views over the sea. Take a look at Gaudi’s work in the chapel of the Colegio Jesús i Maria.  If this interests you, a trip to Barcelona to see much more of his work is easy to arrange. Here you can see his houses, the Cathedral, the Park and many more Gaudi designs.  As well, of course, there is the shopping and the café life on Las Ramblas!

Or take a tour of the nearby towns with great beaches, lively ports and lots of eating opportunities.  Try Salou, Cambrils or visit the Natural Park, Delta del Ebro.  For the younger ones there is the Port Aventura theme park, stacked with rides, slides and lots of water, well worth a day’s excitement!

The best hotels are overlooking the sea, with great facilities as well as pools and restaurants. But you can do just as well away from the centre, in less expensive local hotels with good service and a reasonable price. You can rent an apartment if you want to do your own thing in your own time. There is a lot of choice, have a good look and find your perfect place.

Golf is ever present in this area, with a number of courses to choose from. Most have wonderful views of the sea and many are quite demanding to play. Bonmont is both close by and a fantastic golf course.  The course itself is quite tricky due to a number of ravines and is quite challenging.

Tarragona offers the perfect choice of a seaside break as well as lots of interesting things to do and places to see. You will need a number of visits to even start to do the city justice.
